Puerto Los Cabos
December 2021 – December 2022
Introduction: I started fishing with Eric, an ex Oregonian, and Owner of Gordo Banks Pangas out of Puerto Los Cabos, La Playita, in December 2021. Eric runs an exceptional operation and has Customer Service skills are far above extraordinary. I have known Eric for over 20 years as from October 2003 to July 2009 I made 479 Panga trips out of La Playita, all but four of which were with Salvador (Pata) Pino B. We used to collectively call for All Hands on Deck to get us pushed off the beach and Eric was a part of our push team and I was a part of his push team. Eric operates a fleet of six to twelve pangas that takes Gringos fishing. Erics captains are all long time well experienced fishermen. For example, Jesus Numero Tres, whom I went out with once, told me that he went fishing 330 days in 2020! Eric sent me up initially with four different Captains (three named Jesus) and I have settled in with Benito. I am now fishing with Benito two Sunday’s a month with a pre O dark 30 departure. For the December 2021 to December 2022 window I have now made 28 trips with Eric, of which 24 have been with Benito. With great fortune we have not encountered a day with strong wind. The fish counts you ask? 1,379 fish by hook and line and 70 different fish encountered. In the following pages you will find a photographic summary of those catches. Anything new for me you ask? Er, well no, but we keep trying. However, having said that, I did catch two fish on October 2022 and one in December 2022 of scientific interest – a Mexican Rockfish and a Starry Rockfish, both well out of documented known range, and a seldom seen Speckled Scorpionfish.
